A theme based on the Genesis framework

I have already talked about it, but all the themes present at StudioPress use the Genesis framework.

To say a few words about it, it provides a backend that executes and processes the code to run your site. It’s meant to be very light, that’s why StudioPress themes are powerful.

The pages load fast because the code is executed quickly!

For each installation of one of these premium themes, Genesis is provided. It thus serves as the parent theme and the second part, i.e. the visual rendering of the site corresponds to the child theme.

In this way, there is the basic structure that manages the parameters and the native functions, and then there is the design.

Maker Pro Review

The graphic side

Maker Pro contains three colors in its graphic palette :

  • White for the background ;
  • Very dark green – almost black – for titles, icons and paragraphs ;
  • Flashy green for buttons and links, it’s the main color.

These three colors are modifiable via a CSS rule, there is no option in the settings to change them.

There are three fonts used: Open Sans for paragraphs, Martel for subtitles (very nice font) and Roboto Condensed mainly for titles.

The demo gives you a direct overview of the various visual elements of Maker Pro. It’s very minimalist, we agree!

The parameters

If you’ve ever used a StudioPress theme, you know how it goes. Very few native settings at installation, but free plugins developed by their team to add functionality.

On the other hand, the widget slots on the home page allow you to have visually very clean pre-designed sections:

There are a total of 10 elements for the home page, these are different blocks, then 1 element for the footer.

After the 3 Genesis widgets by default – you can get more via the additional plugins – which are mostly used for the sidebar.

Speed

In itself, the advantage of a simplistic and minimalist theme is that it performs well. In addition, there is no unnecessary code loaded with Genesis so loading times can only be improved.

I’ll take as evidence the report of GTmetrix on the homepage of my blog:

The results should be put into perspective. The first reason is that I installed several plugins – free of charge – to improve the general speed.

Then, the home page contains no images whatsoever, there is only text.

To nuance, let’s test with one of my last articles about Commerce Inspector which contains several images:

Who is Maker Pro designed for?

I’m not going to lie and say that this theme is not for everyone. Already because not everyone likes the minimalist side, but also for the following reason: you have to know how to handle CSS, at least a minimum.

Why?

Chances are you will want to customize some aspects of the theme later. That was my case, I modified among others all the elements of the sidebar and some blocks of the homepage.

So I end up with a hundred custom CSS lines. I also know from experience that this is not something you necessarily like.

Maker Pro is particularly adapted to editors, designers, bloggers who wish to present their work without getting in their heads!

It’s simple, visually clean but perhaps for some too empty. On the other hand, that doesn’t stop it from doing his job properly. One of his strong points is the clarity with which he reads the articles.

My opinion about Maker Pro

I’ve always believed I like things that are simple, especially in the digital realm. I edit several sites and each time I choose a theme that goes to the essential.

Maker Pro is a perfect fit for me. Especially since I really enjoy coding.

Like I said, it’s not for everyone. Despite that, it remains an efficient, ergonomic and high performance WordPress theme thanks to the Genesis framework.

In the meantime, if the points mentioned meet your needs, there’s no doubt that Maker Pro will be the perfect theme for you!
