यहाँ साखी शब्द प्रत्यक्ष ज्ञान को दिखाता है। कबीर विभिन्न स्थानों पर घूम-घूम कर ज्ञान प्राप्त करते थे। इसलिए इनकी भाषा में राजस्थानी, अवधी, भोजपुरी, पंजाबी, आदि भाषाओं का प्रभाव दिखाई पड़ता है। कबीर की भाषा को साधुक्कड़ी या पचमेल खिचड़ी भी कहा जाता है। इस पाठ मे गुरु सत्य की साक्षी देता हुआ अपने शिष्य को जीवन के तत्वज्ञान की शिक्षा देता है।

पाठ 2: पद (मीरा)

मीराबाई मध्यकालीन भक्ति आंदोलन की आध्यात्मिक प्रेरणा के विभिन्न कवियों में से एक हैं। मीराबाई की कविताएं हिन्दी और गुजराती दोनों ही भाषाओं मे हैं, इसलिए ये कविताएं उत्तर भारत सहित बिहार, बंगाल और गुजरात में भी प्रचलित हैं। इनके पदों मे ब्रज, खड़ी बोली पंजाबी और पूर्वी के प्रयोग भी मिल जाते हैं। प्रस्तुत पाठ मे मीरा अपने आराध्य से कभी मनुहार करती हैं तो कभी लाड़ करती हैं। अवसर आने पर कभी – कभी उलाहना भी देने से भी नहीं चूकती हैं।

पाठ 3: दोहे (बिहारी)

बिहारी का स्वभाव विनोदी और व्यंगप्रिय था। लोक ज्ञान और शास्त्र ज्ञान के साथ – साथ , इनका काव्य ज्ञान भी अच्छा था। इनकी एकमात्र रचना है “बिहारी सतसई“ जिसमें लगभग 700 दोहे हैं। इसमें मुख्यतः प्रेम, भक्ति तथा नीति पर आधारित दोहे हैं। बिहारी की भाषा ब्रज है परंतु बुंदेलखंडी शब्दों का प्रयोग भी मिलता है। बिहारी कम से कम शब्दों में अधिक से अधिक अर्थ भरने की कला में निपुण थे। इसलिए, कहा जाता है कि बिहारी गागर में सागर भरने में निपुण थे।

पाठ 4: मनुष्यता (मैथिलीशरण गुप्त)

मैथिलीशरण गुप्त जी रामभक्त कवि थे। इन्हें सदैव राम का ही कीर्तिगान करना अच्छा लगता था। इनकी कविता कि भाषा खड़ी बोली है, परंतु इसमें संस्कृत का प्रभाव भी देखने को मिलता है। इन्हें संस्कृत, बांग्ला, मराठी और अँग्रेजी का अच्छा ज्ञान था। इस पाठ (मनुष्यता) में गुप्त जी ने यह बताने का प्रयास किया है कि मनुष्य मे मनुष्यता के कौन – कौन से लक्षण होने चाहिए ताकि सभी जीव सुख से रह सकें। इनके अनुसार मनुष्य को अपने और अपनों के हित में सोचने से पहले दूसरों के हित के बारे में भी सोचना चाहिए जिससे कि उसका जीवन सफल हो सके और मृत्यु के बाद भी युगों तक औरों कि यादों में बना रह सके।

पाठ 5: पर्वत प्रदेश में पावस (सुमित्रानंदन पंत)

सुमित्रानंदन पंत छायावाद के प्रमुख स्तंभ के रूप में जाने जाते हैं। इन्होंने 15 वर्ष की आयु में ही स्थायी रूप से साहित्य सृजन शुरू कर दिया था। इनकी कविताओं में मुख्य रूप से प्रकृति प्रेम और रहस्यवाद की झलक दिखाई पड़ती है। इन्हें भारत सरकार ने पद्मभूषण सम्मान से भी अलंकृत किया है। पंत जी ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार प्राप्त करने वाले पहले विजेता थे। प्रस्तुत कविता में पढ़ने वाले को इस बात की अनुभूति होने लगती है जैसे अभी – अभी वह पर्वतीय अंचल में घूमकर लौटा हो।

पाठ 6: मधुर मधुर मेरे दीपक जल! (महादेवी वर्मा)

यह पाठ अब केवल पठन के लिए है। इसमें से परीक्षा में प्रश्न नहीं पूंछे जाएँगे।

पाठ 7: तोप (वीरेन डंगवाल)

विरेन डंगवाल पेशे से प्राध्यापक थे परंतु पत्रकारिता से भी जुड़े थे। इन्हें कई पुरस्कारों से सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। इनकी कविता संग्रह “इसी दुनिया में” के लिए इनको प्रतिष्ठित श्रीकांत वर्मा पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था। इस पाठ में विरेन ने प्रतीक और धरोहर के बारे में बताया है। प्रस्तुत पाठ में दो प्रतीकों का चित्रण किया गया है।

पाठ 8: कर चले हम फ़िदा (कैफ़ी आज़मी)

कैफ़ी आज़मी प्रसिद्ध प्रगतिशील उर्दू कवियों में से एक हैं। इनका असली नाम अतहर हुसैन रिजवी है। इनकी मुख्य पाँच कविता संग्रह – झंकार, आखिर-ए-शब, आवारा सजदे, सरमाया और मेरी आवाज सुनो प्रकिशित हुए हैं। इनके तीनों बड़े भाई भी शायर थे। इनकी पत्नी शौकत आज़मी और बेटी शबाना आज़मी मशहूर अभिनेत्रियाँ हैं। “कर चले हम फ़िदा” कविता सैनिकों के जीवन पर आधारित है, जो मुक़ाबले के लिए अपना सीना तान कर खड़े हो जाते हैं। अपनी जान देकर, देशवासियों की ज़िंदगी और आजादी बचाए रखते हैं।
